Prajyoti Madhusudan is the Artistic director of Pushpanjali Dance Company which was formed in 2002. She received her dance training in Bharatanatyam under the guidance of Guru Gopinath Nair. She also received training from G. Karunambal of the famous Sri Rajarajeswari Bharatha Natya Kala Mandir, one of the most prestigious dance institutions in Mumbai. She conducts Bharatanatyam classes at Macclesfield, Wythenshaw and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Manchester where she is the senior dance teacher and has been training students since 1997. Under her tutelage students are offered training at a very high standard with plenty of performance opportunities. They are also offered training for grade exams and vocational training in Bharatanatyam with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (ISTD) which is one of the leading dance examination boards. These qualifications offer students the opportunity to pursue dance as a career.
As an artist, teacher and chorographer Prajyoti has also been involved in various arts education projects, choreography, dance-in-education school projects, workshops, INSET training courses and touring dance productions. Her work reflects her vision of making art accessible to people of all ages and from all walks of life. Her recent dance production of ‘Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs’ with its blend of Indian classical dance and western fairy tale was very well received by audiences everywhere. As a co-founder of North West Dance Alliance, she has toured dance productions such as Dashavatar and Devi extensively in the UK.
Through her work within the community and schools she aims to develop an awareness of the traditional and cultural ethos of India. The participants at her workshops and projects are offered an experience that will enhance their self esteem, confidence and mutual respect which in turn will help break down cultural barriers and encourage racial harmony. She has been involved in projects which include the Oldham festival of tolerance, Forests of India and The Dance, Health and Wellbeing Expo to name but a few.
